A little measuring. A lovely new floor.

How to measure
your room.

A tape measure, a quick sketch and you’re ready to enquire about carpet or vinyl. We’ll help with the rest.

Follow the three steps
  • A tape measure
  • A pen & paper
  • Your phone for a photo

01 Measure

Two measurements.
A great starting point.

Measure the room’s longest length and widest width, wall to wall at floor level.

  • Keep the tape straight and flat.
  • Check in a couple of places and keep the largest measurement in each direction.
  • Write both numbers down, with the room name.

Use metres or centimetres.
Just tell us which. 420 cm is the same as 4.20 m.

The easy bits to missInclude the bay window and doorway in your measurementsA room plan with a bay window above the main wall and a door recess below it. Both extra areas are shaded red, with arrows pointing into them.Bay or alcoveDoor recessInclude theextra floor space
The shaded spaces are part of your floor, too.

02 Check the extras

Don’t stop
at the main walls.

Include any bay windows, alcoves and door recesses when finding the furthest points of your room.

  • Measure right into a bay or alcove.
  • At a doorway, include the floor up to where the new flooring will finish.
  • Mark fireplaces, fitted units and any awkward corners on your sketch.

Send the sizes you measure. Leave the extra for trimming, joins and pattern matching to our team.

No neat drawing skills needed. Just clear numbers.

03 Start your enquiry

Sketch it.
Snap it. Send it.

Draw the outline, add your measurements and take a photo. A photo of the room itself helps, too.

  • Your room name, sizes and units.
  • Carpet, vinyl or “not sure yet”.
  • Your postcode and any fitting date you have in mind.

Every home is different

An awkward shape?
We’re here to help.

L-shaped rooms

Sketch the L shape and divide it into two rectangles, A and B. Note the length and width of each, plus the overall longest and widest dimensions.

Sketch an L-shaped room as two rectanglesRectangle A forms the tall part of the L and rectangle B the shorter part. A dashed line divides them. Arrows also show the full outside length and width. Label the dimensions of both rectangles and the overall room on your sketch.ABOverall lengthOverall width

Send the whole sketch. We’ll plan the roll widths, direction and any joins; adding the two areas together doesn’t tell you how much flooring to order.

Stairs, landings or a room you’re unsure about

A few photos and your postcode are enough to start. Stairs, turns and landings need a careful fitting plan, so ask our team to arrange a free professional measure.
