Carpets & vinyl, supplied & fitted
Gourley’s of Antrim — family carpet fitters since 1978.
A local guide to carpet shops in Ballymena and the surrounding area: what to look for, what to ask, and why the nearest showroom is not always the closest one on the map.
The short version
- Carpet shops in Ballymena range from national chains to independent family firms - the fitting is usually what separates them.
- Ask whether the shop employs its own fitters, or passes the job to a subcontractor.
- A free in-person measure is the only way to get a real price. Phone estimates are guesses.
- Gourley’s of Antrim is a short drive from Ballymena, with 200+ rolls of carpet and vinyl in stock and free measuring across the Ballymena area.
If you are searching for carpet shops in Ballymena, you have more choice than you might think, and it is worth widening the search slightly. Plenty of homes around Ballymena, Ahoghill, Cullybackey, Broughshane, Galgorm and Kells buy their carpet a few miles down the road, simply because the showroom holds more stock and the fitting is done by the shop’s own team. This guide covers what to look for in a carpet shop near Ballymena, what carpet actually costs, and the questions worth asking before you pay a deposit.
What to look for in a carpet shop near Ballymena
Carpet shops in Ballymena do not all work the same way. Some sell the carpet and hand the fitting to a subcontractor they have never worked with. Others, like ourselves, measure, supply and fit with their own team. That single difference decides who is responsible when something needs put right, and it is the thing most people forget to ask about.
- Real stock in the building. A showroom with rolls on the floor means you can see and feel the carpet in daylight, and it can usually be fitted within days rather than ordered in.
- Their own fitters. If the shop employs the fitting team, one business answers for the whole job.
- A free measuring service. Any decent carpet supplier covering Ballymena will come out, measure properly and quote from real numbers.
- Itemised quotes. Underlay, gripper, door bars, uplift and disposal should all appear on the quote before you agree to anything.
- Local reputation. Around Ballymena and County Antrim word travels quickly. Ask around, and read the Google reviews rather than the ones on the website.
Is it worth travelling outside Ballymena for carpet?
Usually, yes, if it buys you a bigger range or a better fitting team. Carpet is not something you collect and carry home. The shop comes to you to measure, and comes back to fit, so the showroom being ten or fifteen minutes further away makes almost no practical difference to you. What does make a difference is how much stock they hold and who lays the floor.
Our Antrim showroom is a short drive from Ballymena, and we measure and fit across Ballymena, Ahoghill, Cullybackey, Broughshane, Galgorm, Kells and Randalstown at no extra charge.
How much does carpet cost around Ballymena?
Prices vary far more with underlay, room shape and fitting than with the carpet itself, which is why two quotes for the same room can look nothing like each other. Stairs cost more than a square bedroom for good reason, and a cheap underlay under a good carpet will flatten within a couple of years. We have written a full breakdown of carpet prices in Northern Ireland if you want the detail before you start ringing round.
